Driving Layne: Book One

Unspoken Truth Series

Synopsis:

“They say, the truth will set you free. My truth is killing me.”

Amber is starting over in a new state where no one knows her.  New roommate, new college and most importantly new freedoms.

Away from home for the first time, Amber isn’t above using a guy for one night and leaving it at that. She doesn’t want to get tied down with one person. She just wants to experience the college life and take advantage of being on her own. So, when Amber’s new BFF Renee invites her to an underground drag racing competition, Amber sets her sights on driver/playboy Layne… and their attraction is mutual.

With his good looks and boyish charm, Layne is popular with the ladies on campus, but Amber thinks one night with him is all she needs to get him out of her system. Little does Amber know that Layne sees things differently, and after their hookup he wants something more. Will Amber open up and let Layne in, or will she run away?

Will the unspoken truth be too much for either of them to handle?

REVIEW:

I loved reading this book! It was absolutely amazing!  Amber is starting over…new state, new school, new roommate and new life choices. One of her new life choices is to have one night stands…but when her roommate takes her to an underground drag racing she sets her eyes on the one man who can possibly change her mind.  However, something in Amber’s past is preventing her from being with the one man that wants to be with her!  Will Layne be able to get Amber to open up about her past or will her closed lips destroy them forever?

The chemistry between these two is amazing.  I cried, laughed and wanted to throw my kindle because I was getting annoyed with both of them but I was hooked from the beginning!

5 stars!

Excerpt:

“So, are you ready doll face?” Renee asks, as I walk in just after my last class.

“Do I have time to freshen up quick?” I ask, throwing my bag on my bed.

“Sure, just make it quick. I don’t want to miss anything.”

“Actually, would you mind if I drove myself? I was thinking of tracking Layne down after the race. I haven’t seen him all week and I want to know why.”

“Okay, but I’ll tell you, you are asking for trouble,” she states. “I’ll see you there then.” She walks out the door before I can even ask what she meant by her comment. Shrugging my shoulders I rush to get freshened up.

Ten minutes later, I’m ready and already headed to the location. I punch the location into my GPS and let it guide me there. I finally make it to the location and spot my red haired bestie. “I made it,” I say, as I nudge her elbow. I see Dylan standing on the other side of her and he nods his head at me.

My eyes immediately scan for Layne. As soon as I see the gaggle of girls, I know he is near them. I just roll my eyes. Oh shit, he sees me.  The look he is giving me is intense as his gaze lingers on me. I’m not sure what that means, but fuck. I watch as he makes his way over toward me, and suddenly I’m nervous as my palms start to sweat. I wipe them over my pants. Renee turns her head and wiggles her eyebrows at me as she watches the scene unfold with me.

“Let’s go,” Layne says, tugging on my shirt sleeve. Oh fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.

I almost stumble a few times as he walks too fast for me to keep up. Finally, I realize we are within walking distance of the garage he took me to the other day. Once inside, I realize we are alone once again.

“Where the fuck have you been? And why haven’t you been in class?” I finally manage the courage to ask.

“Shut up,” he states sternly. Instead of answering me, his lips crash against mine as he presses my body against the wall and I wrap one leg around his waist as I go with his lead. His kiss is intense, and his grip on my leg is just as hard. Even though I know this is a bad idea I want him and I want him now. I fumble with his belt, trying to get his pants off as quick as possible because my panties are about to drop at any second. He kisses me with such intensity that I’m having trouble catching up.

He breaks from the kiss and his eyes are filled with lust. “I swear to god, if you don’t stop me now I will take you against the wall right here, right now,” he says, breaking from the kiss and pressing his forehead against mine. I contemplate my options, and know that the only option is to do it one more time. Right now it feels right, and I’m sure one more time is all I’ll need to get him out of my system. So, come on Layne, give a girl what she wants. No regrets here, I think. I press my finger against his lips to shush him. His lips crash with mine again and our bodies entwine with each other. “I’m giving you one last chance to back out, because you deserve better than this,” he says.

“If you’re not going to fuck me now then what am I doing here? This is what you wanted, right?” I ask, finally having enough of his game.

I unbutton my shirt, taunting him with the sight of my bare skin. He takes a few steps back, and I watch as he runs his hands over his short hair. His eyes turn and now his face is full of anger. I’m frozen in place, because I’m not sure what he’s going to do. He pulls his arms back and slams his fist into the wall not far from where I am, causing me to jump.

He walks over to me and gets as close to my face as possible. “I don’t know if you are blind, or just plain spiteful. Can’t you see I want you and possibly something more if you would just let me in? I’ve been fighting with these feelings for long enough and it’s time to just get it out in the open.” He places a hand on the wall on each side of me so I can’t escape. Tears start to escape my eyes, because I know we could never be, even if I wanted.

“I can’t do relationships. There is a reason beyond my control and no matter how I feel, it’s there.” The words come out in whisper and the tears continue to fall freely. I duck underneath his arm, surprised that he lets me and make my way out of the garage and toward the crowd at the race. I look back to see the look of defeat on his face. I’m sure he’s not used to it and it starts to break me, but I know I have to walk away. He could have any girl he wants, and he chooses the one he can’t have.

excerpt
“It’s called A Mirage of Impulse.”
He scrubbed a hand over his chin. “I didn’t take your friend for such a passionate person. I like it,” he said, eyes fixed on the vibrant canvas.
“Don’t let the high heels, fake red fingernails or what I like to call daggers, and the fancy clothes fool you. She’s a pretty awesome person,” she laughed.
He stared straight ahead and continued to deny her his attention. Either the painting enthralled him or she’d been right all along. He was the type of guy who got off by making a girl work for it—for him. Kaley might have been that girl a few years ago but no more would she beg for any guy’s attention. She drummed to a different beat now, one that was a bit louder and a whole lot bolder.
Hand entwined with his, she thrust her shoulders back, and faced him. “You think you saved me back there, don’t you?”
His head tilted and he looked down at her from the corner of his eye. “Yes. I do.” He turned, giving her his full attention. “As I told your friend, unlike my former employee, I can tell when a woman’s not interested. And, love, you were lookin’ for some kind of escape from that guy back there.” He glanced at her mouth for another second that felt like a minute before looking back up at her. “It’s your eyes. I told you, they’re a dead giveaway.”
“Oh, yeah,” she lifted her chin, “and just what are they saying now?”
Her cocky boldness got her a slight jerk from his hand. Her body fell forward against his hard one. His dark hazel gems fell too. They drifted over every inch of her body. Every heated place she wanted him to touch. She licked her bottom lip, and then she bit it. Beneath cloaked eyes, he observed the whole ordeal. Her breasts swelled against the thin material of her dress, and for the first time that night she remembered she had on a thong. Her pussy pulsated and the string tugged tighter between her ass cheeks. She wanted him, right there. Wanted him to slip his hand up her dress and…
The side of his mouth lifted and those dark eyes twinkled. “Do you really want me to say that out load?”
Again, like at the tattoo shop, the man insinuated that he had the ability to read her eyes. Ignoring the building heat between her shaky thighs, and his deliberate comment, she lifted her head. “You’re a real smooth one. Aren’t you, Lucky?”
“Lucky?” The other side of his delicious mouth lifted to complete the sexiest smile ever. “I see we’ve graduated from what my football coach used to call me.” He squeezed her hand, running a thumb over the top of her fingers. The little touch soared through her entire body. He bent down closer to mouth. “Now, don’t go letting the dapper clothes, or my charming smiles fool you. I’m not all that smooth. In fact, I’ve been known to be a little rough at times.”
“Hmm…” She lingered on his remark, what he meant by it and how it had made her hotter than hell. Glancing over his shoulder, she shifted back to him with a smile. “I’m sorry to disappoint you but you’re not going to get the chance to be smooth or rough right now for it appears my friend is on her way over here to save me.”
“And I’m sorry to disappoint you, Kaley, but your pretty awesome friend obviously doesn’t have the ability to read your eyes like I do.” His voice lowered, “‘Cause we both know you ain’t in any need of being saved, at least not yet.”

REVIEW: Going For Four by Erin Nicholas

1797569_744692532221985_34822791_nAbout the book:

It’s either true love…or the biggest mistake they’ve ever made.

Counting on Love, Book 4

Hot firefighter Cody Madsen has stayed away from Olivia Dixon for almost two years—technically. Even though he talks to her every day and sees her every weekend. But there’s no kissing, touching, or telling her how he really feels. Because they’re just friends. Anything more than that would mean crossing the line that Olivia’s older brother has firmly drawn between them.

Olivia wants what her three sisters have—true love. She could almost believe she’s found it with Cody, if it weren’t for the fact that he’s her older brother’s best friend and her brother won’t have it. And he’s never steered her wrong before. Her head is telling her to trust her brother, but her heart won’t let go of Cody.

Her solution? A dating site where she and Cody can each find their “Perfect Pick” once and for all.

But when the site yields some unexpected results, their real feelings come front and center. And they have to decide if it’s worth the risk to cross the line from friendship to love after all.

Warning: Contains a starry-eyed romantic, a wannabe knight in shining armor, and chocolate chip cookies. A lot of chocolate chip cookies.

REVIEW:

Going for Four was amazing!!  Connor and Olivia finally got their story…but them coming together is not in a way one would think.  Connor and Olivia are roommates that are attracted to each other but have house rules that prevent them from acting on their feelings.  Olivia decides that they both need to go out on dates with other people so she creates profiles for them on a dating website…nothing good could come from this right?  Well since I don’t do post spoilers you’ll have to pick up a copy of this AMAZING book and find out!  Will the dating profiles work in favor of Connor and Olivia or will it destroy everything these two have and could have in the future!

REVIEW:

Loved this book…I was drawn to this book originally because of the title…I mean come on Crazy Maybe is an awesome title!  I enjoyed this book so much…girl with past problems, boy whose family won’t accept his choice to become a boxer (which BTW is hot as hell).  The two need each other but then the past comes back to hunt Andi and could destroy everything….best kind of story.  Every emotion is displayed by the characters and experienced by the readers.  Will these two overcome the problems from their past or will it be too much and tear them apart forever?

Excerpt

ANDI

Our usual table is inhabited by the usual suspects – Shane, Will, Brandon and of course, Luke. He has his back to me and doesn’t know I’m here yet. So I walk to the DJ booth and tell him to queue up a song for me. I had a few drinks at the pub we just left, I’m pissed and I’m really fucking hurt, so I’m going to take it out on the stage. The song, Just A Fool, is actually a duet between Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton, but tonight I’m singing it solo. And I’m singing it with every bit of emotion I have bubbling just below the surface of my cool façade.

The lyrics are perfect for me right now. I obviously feel like a fool because I can’t get over him and I can’t let him go, but I know I should. I feel like I’m weak for wanting him to make this all up to me. For even thinking I could forgive him if he would just do something to take this pain away. Love feels like a cruel joke and no one has hurt me in the way that he has. I just want to forget about love and about him, but somehow he’s in every thought I have and every move I make.

I leave the stage and a friend from the gym I haven’t seen in a while stops me and asks me to dance with him. Another slow song is playing so I step into his embrace and we take the opportunity to catch up. He asks how I’m holding up, knowing how bad my life sucks right now, and I give him a non-committal shrug of my shoulders. Christina taps on my arm and her gaze suddenly shifts and I turn to see what she’s looking at.

Oh. It’s Luke and he is charging forward like a bull, hell-bent on his destination. Which happens to be me at the moment.

“Andi,” he barks at me.

“Yes,” I reply smugly.

I watch intently as he grits his teeth and clenches and flexes his hands. His anger is barely contained and he’s working hard at restraining himself. I know I’m not helping it but I’m no more in the mood to be fucked with right now than he is.

“I need you to come with me,” he finally says.

“No.”

He nods his head, seemingly understandingly, until I realize that I read him completely wrong. He just decided he wasn’t going to argue with me. In the typical method of the men in my life, he picks me up with ease, throws me over his shoulder, and charges back to the front door. People watch with amused expressions as I scream obscenities at him like a lunatic until he reaches the door. Then I realize we’re going outside and there may be cameras that catch me actually acting like a lunatic so I stop.

“Luke – do not walk out that door with me over your shoulder. I’m in the news enough as it is. I don’t need to add any more to it,” I say in my sternest voice possible. This stops him in his tracks and I know he hears the words I didn’t say – thanks to your family.

He puts me down but doesn’t let go of me. “Then walk with me like a normal person would.”

I sigh heavily, not hiding my dislike of his demand, and respond with the typical pissed-off female response. “Fine.”

COVER REVEAL: See Jane Fall by Katy Regnery

KatyRegenry_SeeJaneFall2500
Blurb:
When Trend magazine contracts Lindstrom & Sons to manage a fashion shoot in Yellowstone, easygoing Lars Lindstrom rolls his eyes at the assignment. “Babysitting” supermodel Samara Amaya’s assistant for a week sounds like a snore, even amidst the park’s lush wildlife and scenery. Little does he know that spending time with Jane Mays, Samara’s down-to-earth, smart-mouthed assistant and cousin, will be the most exciting week he’s ever spent. Her smoky voice and surprisingly sweet heart are everything he never knew he wanted.
Jane has been hurt before, but this time her handsome tour guide seems a perfect match. From loving the same music to some effortlessly sexy sparring, Lars “gets” her, and Jane can’t seem to keep herself from falling for him…until Samara blows into town. Used to living in Samara’s shadow, Jane knows that Lars will be nothing more than a notch in a bedpost if the spoiled supermodel has her way. In the past, maybe she would have stepped aside. This time, Jane’ll find the strength to stand up to her cousin once and for all…and trust that Lars will be there to catch her if she falls.
Excerpt from “See Jane Fall,” Heart of Montana #3 by Katy Regnery:
“You know you’re cute, right, Jane?” Lars asked.
“You don’t have to say that.”
“I wouldn’t if it wasn’t true.”
“All part of the service.”
“Nope, that’s my personal opinion.”
Jane had had just about enough. “You don’t have to do that.” An edge crept into her tone.
He pulled over to the side of the road, put the car in park and cut the engine, looking at her. “I don’t have to do what?”
“You don’t need to butter me up. You don’t need to flatter me. I’m the assistant. Let me school you here, Professor… I’m the girl that’s the friend, Lars. I’m the girl you talk to about the girl you’re going out with on Friday night. I’m the girl who tells you which restaurant to take her to, and what kind of wine she hopes you’ll order. I’ll even come over beforehand and help you pick out what shirt to wear, and if you forget your wallet while you’re out with her, I’ll jimmy your bedroom window open, find it in the pants you wore yesterday and drive it over to the restaurant. And when I hand it to you, she’ll look at me like I’m nothing…and–”
“Jane.”
“What?”
“Stop talking.” In an instant he had unsnapped his seatbelt, unsnapped hers, slipped one arm around her waist and pulled her across the seat next to him.
He placed his hands on either side of her face and before she could completely get her head around what was about to happen, she felt his lips brush gently, but firmly, across hers.
Her eyes closed, tearing up from the unexpected sweetness of his reassurance, and as her lips opened in surprise, she kissed him back. His fingers played with her curls, tilting her face exactly how he wanted it, moving his lips with more urgency.
She lowered her hands to rest her knuckles on his thighs, and he moved his hands from her face down her arms to her hips where she felt his fingers curl into fists along the waistband of her jeans as the kiss deepened, as he slipped his tongue into her mouth and pulled her closer to him. His tongue plunged deeper, satiny and stroking, making her dizzy from the contact, her breathing fast and fierce as her palms pushed down on this iron muscles of his thighs.
Her heart pounded, her head was spinning, her insides a swirling mess of longing and warning, feuding in the overwhelmed territory between her head and her heart. She felt his fingers graze the skin of her waist under her shirt, which made goose bumps rise all over her body, and somehow prompted her back to reality.
“Wait.” Jane drew back, panting. She didn’t dare look into his eyes, staring at her hands on his leg instead, listening to the sound of her breathing, which was amplified in her ears, heavy and ragged.
She unfurled her fingers and reached up to touch the tender, hot skin of her lips with a tentative caress, finally looking up at Lars. He was watching her, searching her face with a frank, unapologetic, unwavering gaze. She read it quickly; Hungry for more, but happy with what he’d just gotten.
